Halloween Inspired Wedding Photo Shoot

November 15, 2011

Sunny and I had the opportunity to do make up and hair for a unique and fun Halloween inspired photo shoot. We worked with Mandi Wiley of Champagne Wedding & Event Coordination, Jessica Hill Photography and many other talented wedding professionals! The photo shoot was set at the Lolich’s Family Farm in Scholls, Oregon.

How fun to do make up and hair for a Halloween inspired shoot!!! Mandi was so great about letting us do what we felt would be best! She gave us the inspiration board and let us get creative! The colors were purple and orange with lots of black accents….so fun! I knew I wanted to keep it bridal but definitely add some drama!

Big (& a little messy) hair and smokey eyes were a must!! Sunny and I met with the models and talked over some ideas. We came up with messy hair styles inspired by Bridget Bardot & classic Halloween witches! For makeup, I immediately saw smokey eyes with purple for one of the models and smokey eyes with bronze/brown tones for the other model. I love doing smokey eyes with colors other than black. I feel they photograph so much better in the unpredictable natural light!

Michelle and Kali create a soft, romantic look for an inspiration photo shoot

September 25, 2011

Face Body Beauty artists, Michelle and Kali, created a lovely romantic makeup and hair look for a beautiful bride. The setting was the gorgeous Maysara Vineyards. The theme was soft and romantic with some vintages touches.

All the details were captured by  the, very talented, Deyla Huss of Deyla Huss Photography and Ryan of Focal Point Digital Media.

Michelle used a palette of soft mauve and plum tones to capture the romantic feel of the wedding. It is just gorgeous. I love these colors with her dark features. So beautiful.

The plum tones add a little bit of drama without making her look overdone and the soft blush brightens and gives that bridal glow.

Kalie created a lovely effortless look for the hair. Big, loose waves work perfectly with this veil and this setting.

Thank you Deyla for the beautiful images! We always love working with you! There were many talented wedding professionals involved with this photo shoot. Some of them are No Oridinary Affair event planning, Maysara Vineyards, Fluer:ology and Premier Catering.

Brunch Wedding Celebration

May 25, 2010

I recently had another wonderful opportunity to work with Sara Gray Photography and several other amazing vendors on an pink and white brunch celebration shoot which was published on The Wedding Chicks blog.

The basic idea for this brunch wedding celebration was to build it around a  feminine pink-and-white palette.

With this in mind, I designed a soft makeup and hair look for the bride using soft, understated pink tones.

I used a soft frosty colored pink on the lips as it photographs beautifully in naturally lighting.  Several shades of blush helped to create and enhance the natural flush of this glowing bride.

I highlighted the inner corner of the eye with a special shimmer powder to create a beautiful glow to her eyes. Just enhancing the natural glow that a bride always has! In keeping with the soft pink and white palette, I styled her hair in a soft side chignon.  Incorporating small strands of pink toned, irregular freshwater pearls added something unique to the style.

A special thank you to Sara Gray Photography for the beautiful photos and for creating such a wonderful wedding concept. Here are some of the other vendors involved in this inspiration shoot:

Things that are inspiring me!

March 23, 2010

As an artist it is super important and fun to be on the lookout for fresh ideas, styles and techniques! This post is compilation of things that are inspiring me right now! Hopefully you will find some fun inspiration as well!

I am loving messier and undone styles for hair. The beading intertwined in this updo is so pretty and interesting to look at! I love it!

This messy updo is super sexy and glamorous at the same time! A vintage brooch or flower would be the perfect addition!

A bun does not have to be tight and super structured!! I love the softness of this chignon…especially the soft pieces framing the face.   Absolutely beautiful!

Ok, I pretty much love everything about the picture below! It is not a look for everyone but it is such a fun mix of vintage and rock n’ roll! It is difficult to create texture with dark hair but this braid adds amazing texture in the picture! Her makeup is also amazing! I love the shimmery taupe tones on her beautiful blues!

I always love pink tones in the Spring and Summer! This makeup is soft, glowy and incredible! Some MAC eyeshadows I would use to create soft looks like this are: Hush, Girlie, Patina, Naked Lunch, Haux, Sable and Satin Taupe!

I am loving working with matte eyeshadows lately! A smokey eye created using matte eyeshadows is so subtly sexy! Penelope Cruz  in the picture below is the perfect example. No shimmer, no glitter needed to be sultry and sexy! I use the following MAC eyeshadows to create a matte smokey eye: Vanilla, Wedge, Brown Down eyeshadows and molasses eye liner.

I do a lot of vintage makeup and hair styling! I love everything about the makeup and hair in this picture. The style is very defined and the makeup sultry! I love that the artist didn’t do a red lip! Red lips are not a requirement of a retro/vintage look! It is fun to switch it up with a pink lip or more nude lip sometimes!

I hope you found some inspiration in these fun pictures/ideas! It is important to try new things with hair and makeup to keep from getting in a style rut! As always, feel free to contact me anytime with questions about makeup and/or hair styling!

Staying Current With All Things Beauty!!!

February 3, 2010

There are always new trends, techniques, products and tools coming out so we love to be up to date with all things beauty!!

The Face Body Beauty team of artists get together at least once a month for artist workshops. Sometimes we focus on hair and other times we focus on makeup! We have a few areas/topics we focus on for each workshop. It is always way too much fun and such an amazing way to stay current and inspired!

Above, Nanielle is working on our model during one of our Makeup Workshops! We were focusing on soft & beautiful looks for blue eyed beauties!!

Above, Rebecca is creating lovely & soft look for our model…showing that not everyone needs to wear eyeliner on their top eyelids….some ladies look  much better and more natural without it!

Below, Oh how I love to backcomb :)    Imelda is curling every lock of hair just perfectly…there really is an art to curling correctly!!

Imelda and Jennifer are working on creating an ”undone” style for our model! So popular right now!

Such a beautiful, loose and undone style for our model!

I hope you enjoyed this sneak peak into the workings of the Face Body Beauty team! If there is a certain style or technique you would like us to blog about just let me know and we can make that happen!

Face Body Beauty does offer both makeup and hair styling lessons so contact Jennifer if you are interested in either a one on one lesson or small group lesson! It is a great way to learn techniques for both makeup and hair! All lessons are customized to your specific goals and skill level!

As always, thank you for following the Face Body Beauty blog!

Shimmer, Sparkle & Shine this New Years Eve!!

December 28, 2009

Shimmer, sparkle and shine this New Years Eve! Ladies will often ask me for some simple ways to dress up their makeup for the holidays! If it is an important party or event I definitely recommend hiring a professional artist like myself to help you get fancy! This way you can be certain you will love the way you look!

If doing it yourself, here are some products, pics and tips to help you look fancy for your special night!

I LOVE this product! It is called “overshadow” and is designed to take your makeup from day to night. You just put it on top of your eyeshadow and it creates a beautiful shimmery finish…It is not glittery just shimmery which is a very subtle yet sexy way to be fancy! You can also use it on shoulders, cheeks and decolette to add a sophisticated shimmer!! You can find TheBalm at Sephora!

There are 4 shades…my 2 faves are “no money no honey” which is a beautiful ivory/gold shimmer and “if you’re rich I’m single” which is a little bronzey and great for a smokey look!

….remember to tap your brush out before you apply it otherwise you will have shimmer everywhere!!

Love glitter? Me too! MakeupForever makes some super fun and stand out glitters! A few ideas for glitter are to apply it with a wet brush on top of your eyeliner, on top of your eyeshadow or at the top of your cheekbones! You can find these Makeup Forever glitters at Sephora. More →
